The 71-1D-2 is a NEW, single needle, one-thread, double row feed butt-seamer that runs on Merrow's barrel cam architecture. It joins DRY, light to medium weight KNIT fabric at HIGH SPEED. With minimal part upgrades, the 71-1D-2 can easily be converted to sew with two threads.
The combination of high speed sewing and a narrower butted seam makes the 71-1D-2 ideal for seaming lightweight knits. It sews a flat and strong stitch that is similar to the traditional Merrow butt seam, but at 3/8" is tighter and more compact, creating a secure joint on lightweight fabric. The 71-Class stitch still maintains a flat profile however, and will not interfere with subsequent finishing processes.
The 71-1D-2 is a hybrid of Merrow's MG-Class and 70-Class machines. While the 71-Class sews with the precision and speed of our MG overlock models, it does not recirculate oil and prevents the internal buildup of particulates that plagues self-oiling machines. All 71-Class models have specially milled cam grooves that allow consistent, uninterrupted sewing at up to 4000 rpm.
The 71-1D-2 is engineered for dry industrial environments where fast seaming of knit fabric is required. Because it does not recirculate oil it offers a distinct advantage over converted overlock machines, and like all Merrows it is designed to run continuously without interruption due to machine or stitch failure.
